A very sick kid who made a spectacular recovery; not traditional African dress I guess, but cute anyway; typical scene - the women with very heavy buckets, while the men just hang around (!); pride personified (and why i did not discuss politics at all when i was there....); political statement, in a wonderfully musical African style.

Patients recovering in the kids ward; worldly and wise; the local swimming pool, latrine, laundromat and shower; why its important to brush your teeth regularly - old school dentistry; kids - note the young girls' toy of choice in Mavinga - a beer bottle with a tuft of plastic hair! Watch out Barbie.

Hundreds of people wait for a free bucket and some biscuits.... money to burn. Or not; Some cowboys, which i guess makes this guy the sheriff; you startin' something?; the dichotomy of childhood here - young girl as a caregiver, childhood with responsibility all at once; meanwhile, a serious business meeting

Dinner time for a patient's children; some of the team, various "dudes" (!)included; Dominga, our cook with an affinity for oil and good conversation - check out the T-shirt; triage tent in a cholera camp in one of the cities - up to four to a bed, while various authorities not only do nothing, but actually impede the medical work; another universe.... looking out over lake Geneva in Switzerland, contemplating which fondue i will eat tonight and which several-thousand dollar-pen in the window i cant afford.
